PAN 2.0

The Permanent Account Number (PAN) has long played a pivotal role in India’s financial and administrative frameworks, linking individuals and businesses to key economic functions while ensuring transparency and regulatory compliance. As a critical component of the digital economy, PAN has evolved into a gateway for accessing essential services, becoming integral to everyday life. In line with technological progress and the need for user-friendly systems, the Cabinet has recently approved PAN 2.0—a major initiative aimed at redefining PAN’s role in India’s advancing digital and financial ecosystem. The PAN 2.0 Project is a forward-looking effort to modernize taxpayer registration through enhanced e-governance, revamping PAN/TAN services to deliver a seamless digital experience. It seeks to simplify and upgrade the issuance and management of PAN and TAN, with a strong emphasis on user efficiency. The project also focuses on unifying multiple platforms and improving service delivery for PAN/TAN holders.
